Back of card reads: Bridget Mudjidell, b. circa 1933 (Ngarti language group)
Journey of a Dreaming Emu, 1991. Acrylic on canvas, 1200 x 600 mm (47.5 in. x 23.75 in.) Artist's country: Yunkupalyi, east of Yagga Yagga.
Bridget Mudjidell lived the first part of her life in this area and knows it intimately. There is a large clay-pan or "warran," and it is associated with the Dreamtime travels of an emu (whose tracks are seen). The emu was living off the foods that the women still go out to collect (bush gooseberries, carrots and onions). Songs and dances celebrate these things, and the artist is one of the senior custodians of this Law.
